About Eyelid Surgery
Blepharoplasty, or eyelid lift surgery, is a procedure by Houston, TX board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Jay Shenaq. The procedure is for the patient who is interested in removing excess fat and skin (bagginess) in the upper and/or lower eyelids. This will give the patient a more youthful or rested appearance to the eyes. Dr. Shenaq places his incisions along the natural creases that exist in the upper and lower eyelids, effectively hiding them once healed. Excess fat and/or skin is carefully removed for a smoother appearance. This procedure can be performed alone or in conjunction with other facial rejuvenation procedures at Plastic Surgery of Houston.
"I met Dr Shenaq when my best friend had breast cancer. He took so much time to carefully explain the procedure to her. I was so impressed with this surgeon that when I came down with breast cancer in my left breast I immediately made my appointment with Dr. Shenaq. I had a double skin sparing mastectomy with reconstruction, and yes this plastic surgeon did a phenomenal job! Dr. Shenaq and his staff took such good care of me, they are very understanding, and really care about you. I could not be happier with the outcome of my surgery. Westside surgical center is where my surgery took place. If you want phenomenal patient care, this is the place to be. Dr. Shenaq with his particular care, really made me look and feel good about myself quickly."- L.M. / Yelp / Nov 03, 2015

"In 1998 my 9 year old had a major accident on his dirt bike (he was wearing a full face helmet) . Dr Shenaq put over 60 stitches in his face and you can’t even see a scar. The muscles in his far head were severed and hanging out of his face too. He does amazing work and I would recommend him to everyone!"- L.C. / Facebook / Feb 23, 2019
"5 STARS- 10 stars if I could! I would not have been able to survive the last year without the kind and loving care of Dr Shenaq and ALL of his staff! Brenda, Olga and Marcie were also there for me whenever I had questions or concerns or even when I was having a bad day and needed someone to talk to. When I first met with Dr. Shenaq and his staff I had just been diagnosed with Breast Cancer and I was nervous, frightened, and very concerned about my overall health. I have... Type 2 Diabetes and I DID NOT have it under control. Dr Shenaq was very kind, compassionate , comforting and very comforting, yet, very adamant that he was very concerned about my A1C and told me that he would not do the DIEP Reconstruction until my blood sugar was under control. This was a wakeup call for me! I got me A1C under control and was able to have the procedure. I am now 30 pounds lighter, have a flat tummy and my girls look great!!!! I am so confident and very grateful for these wonderful people! Go see him! You will not regret it!"- B.A. / Facebook / Sep 18, 2018
Good candidates for eyelid surgery are men and women who experience:
- Bags or fat deposits under the eyes
- Loose skin and wrinkles on the upper eyelid
- Impaired vision due to hanging skin on the upper eyelid
What to Expect
Blepharoplasty can be performed on the upper eyelid, lower eyelid, or both. This procedure is most commonly used to treat excess, loose, and sagging skin around the eyes that can impair vision and make a patient look and feel uncomfortable. This procedure also corrects minor wrinkles and folds around the eyes to improve your appearance. During the procedure, the loose skin around the eye is removed along with any fat pockets through small incisions. For upper eyelid treatment, the removal of excess skin and fat can improve vision and correct the natural fold of the eye.
Following eyelid surgery, patients should keep their heads elevated for the first several days. Bruising and swelling should be expected and may last up to 3 – 4 weeks. It also takes about this same amount of time for results to be noticeable. Patients should expect minimal scarring at incision points that will be almost invisible to the naked eye.
